Here’s how to Calculate Your Basal Metabolic Rate

Women: BMR = 655 + ( 4.35 x weight in pounds ) + ( 4.7 x height in inches ) – ( 4.7 x age in years )

  1. Weigh yourself and measure your height.
  2. Multiply your weight in pounds by 4.35
  3. Multiply your height in inches by 4.7
  4. Multiply your age in years by 4.7

Add the numbers you got in steps 2 and 3 and subtract the number you got in step 4. Add the resulting number to 655 to get your basal metabolic rate. For example, if you are 23 years old, weigh 120 pounds and measure 5 feet 7 inches tall, you have a basal metabolic rate of 1,383. Your BMR equals the number of calories you burn each day through basic functions.

Healthy Weight Loss Tips #2

Do not eat less than 1000-1200 calories a day. Your body needs to be able to function and when you cut your caloric intake below 1000, your body will begin to suffer. You really should not eat less than 1200 calories a day or you risk Hair loss, anemia, memory loss, dry itchy scaly skin, your heart lung or kidneys may try to shut down. You are compromising your immune system and it may turn against you and attack your cells.

Healthy Weight Loss Tips #3

Taking a good supplement while trying to lose weight (See our supplements page) would be a good idea to keep your body in balance by giving it the nutrients it needs to function.  Some studies have suggested that the reason some people gain weight is because their body is lacking a mineral or vitamin and their brain is telling your stomach to eat more calories than you need.

Healthy Weight Loss Tips #4

Also when you eat less than 1200 calories, your body goes into a starvation mode and starts to store the fat and you will not lose any weight.  The trick is to lose 2-5 pounds a week and no more than that. At first when dieting and exercising you might lose more than 5 pounds if you are carrying a lot of water. After the first few weeks and your water weight is gone you will see about 2-5 pounds of weight loss and that is good.

Healthy Weight Loss Tips #5

If you burn 500 more calories than you eat every day for a week, you should lose about 1-2 pounds per week. If you want to lose weight faster, you’ll need to eat less and exercise more.

If you take in 1,200 calories a day, and exercise for one hour per day, you could lose 3-5 pounds in the first week, or more if you weigh more than 250 pounds. It’s very important not to cut calories any further because it is too dangerous.
